How old do I have to be to play veterans cricket
Veterans Cricket Australia (VCA) provides for competitions for players aged 40 years and older.
To be eligible to compete a player must turn the competition age in the year of the tournament.
What local competitions exist for veterans cricket?
There are various competitions held in the Perth metropolitan area. See our About Us page for competitions information links.
The WAVC arranges summer competitions for the 40's, 50's and 60's men's divisions.
How much does it cost to play in a national championships?
This depends on where the championships are held each year. However, the expected costs a player may have are Championships host fees, flights, accommodation, uniform.
Indicative estimates per player may be:
Host Fees/Team Costs/Local Transport - $900
Return Flights depending on destination - $700
Accommodation - 5 Nights $500
Uniform - $100
Sponsorship is an important part of each playing group keeping costs down to a minimum.
Where are the national championships held?
Each year the national championships are hosted by a state for each of the age groups. These are generally announced at the conclusion of the current years tournament.
Is it only Australian teams in the national championships?
No, in some age groups there are teams from New Zealand also competing
When are national championships held?
Most championship tournaments are held between the end of October and start of December. The exact schedule is determined by VCA and the host organisations.
As a player you need to consider if you are able to be away during this period and plan any leave needed.
What do the national championship fees cover?
Fees are set by the host organisation each tournament. There is a team registration and player registration component. These cover events such as welcoming & awards nights, also playing costs such as ground fees, umpires, balls & lunches.
These are charged directly to the WAVC who will collect payments per player via our payment system hosted on the Try Bookings website.
How many games are played in a national championship fixture
Most fixtures start on Sunday and end on Thursday. Teams will play 4 games with a rest day scheduled on Tuesday. Rain can often play a part meaning rest days are lost so be prepared to play 4 days straight.
What uniform do I need to have for national championships?
WAVC have partnered with a local WA company Icon Cricket to provide uniforms for representative cricket.
Prior to each tournament players will be able to order uniforms through Icon's web ordering portal.
Minimum playing kit required
- Playing Shirt
- Pants
- Cap/Hat
- Walk on/Social Polo shirt.
Additional kit may include
- Bags
- Backpacks
- Black Pads, Gloves, Helmet
- Training shirt
How do does the selections process work?
Age groups will often have trial games and training sessions in the lead up to the championships. Based on these opportunities squads are selected for each division. A WAVC selection policy is available on our documents page which provides the general guidance, each age group then works according to their player interest levels to apply an appropriate process.
